Pulse oximetry is a simple and non-invasive screening tool that can help detect critical congenital heart disease in newborn babies before the onset of symptoms.
National guidelines have been developed to support local health services to implement this screening, providing a consistent and evidence-based protocol for everyone to follow.
The guidelines have been written for health practitioners involved in health assessment, screening, and treatment of newborn babies in Aotearoa New Zealand, and they have been endorsed by the National Maternity Monitoring Group.
