Provisional vaccinator roles were introduced as part of the COVID-19 response and expired after two years.

All authorisations for Provisional Vaccinators and Provisional Pharmacist Vaccinators expired by the end of October 2024 and those who held one of these roles are no longer authorised to administer vaccines.

If provisional vaccinators wish to continue vaccinating, they must follow an approved vaccinator training pathway to obtain authorisation.

The specific pathway depends on their health profession. For more information on training and authorisation pathways visit the Vaccinating Workforce webpage.
