Health protection measures for travellers entering New Zealand
Whatu Tāniko pattern
Positive cases and isolation requirements
It is recommended that crew and passengers monitor carefully for COVID-19 or influenza (flu) and other respiratory viruses and if symptoms develop, people should be tested.
People testing positive for COVID-19 or influenza (flu) or who have symptoms of acute respiratory infection are recommended to stay in their cabin or quarters until they are well (at least 5 days if COVID-19 positive).
People who have symptoms of gastroenteritis are recommended to stay in their cabin or quarters until they are well. They should be offered and advised to use the room service and avoid buffet areas until they have had no symptoms for 48 hours.
If a person testing positive for COVID-19 or influenza (flu), or who has symptoms of acute respiratory infection needs to leave their cabin or quarters they should wear a mask, practice good hand hygiene, and avoid crowded spaces. If they leave the ship they should not visit a healthcare facility (except to access medical care), or an aged residential care facility.
The ship remains the primary place for a maritime arrival to isolate if they have an infectious disease as long as they are well enough to do so.
Vessels are expected to provide ready access to hand sanitation, masks, appropriate testing equipment, and support for passengers and crew with communicable diseases.
