Positive cases and isolation requirements

  • It is recommended that crew and passengers monitor carefully for COVID-19 or influenza (flu) and other respiratory viruses and if symptoms develop, people should be tested
  • People testing positive for COVID-19 or influenza (flu) or who have symptoms of acute respiratory infection or gastroenteritis (gastro) are recommended to stay in their cabin or quarters until they are well (at least 5 days if COVID-19 positive)
  • If a person testing positive for COVID-19 or influenza (flu), or who has symptoms of acute respiratory infection needs to leave their cabin or quarters they should wear a mask, practice good hand hygiene, and avoid crowded spaces. If they leave the ship they should not visit a healthcare facility (except to access medical care), or an aged residential care facility.
  • The ship remains the primary place for a maritime arrival to isolate if they have an infectious disease as long as they are well enough to do so
  • Vessels are expected to provide ready access to hand sanitation, masks, appropriate testing equipment, and support for passengers and crew with communicable diseases.
