Over their lifetime, New Zealanders can receive vaccinations from a range of health providers. Previously, health providers couldn’t always get a full picture of a person’s vaccination history to help them, and the consumer make the best health decisions.

The AIR enables immunisation healthcare providers to access immunisation health records and make better decisions about whether a person should or should not receive a vaccination.

The health sector will have opportunities to use more accurate aggregate-level vaccination data to understand vaccine uptake and make decisions to address inequities in vaccination rates.

The AIR helps give Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and the wider health system a better understanding of population immunity against vaccine-preventable diseases. This helps manage public health risks by providing an accurate set of vaccination data that health providers can use. The AIR is used by healthcare workers to see which vaccines people in their community have had, and if people are due for an immunisation.
