Summary
The Palliative Care Council of New Zealand worked with the Midland Palliative Care Workgroup and Hospital Palliative Care New Zealand to develop referral criteria for adult palliative care services in New Zealand.
These criteria apply to all specialist palliative care services (SPC) in New Zealand.
The referral criteria reflect the current understanding of SPC in New Zealand and how SPC and hospices relate with other providers of palliative care.
They aim to help create a more uniform understanding about palliative care provision across all settings.
The criteria have been amended to apply to both hospice and hospital palliative care services.
