This standard describes the structure of an ambulance care summary document used to communicate patient information at transfer of care.
In 2015 ambulance officers began using a touchscreen application called the 'electronic Patient Report Form' (ePRF) to record their clinical impressions, observations and interventions in providing care to patients.
The standard defines an ambulance care summary electronic document type for communicating patient information interoperably at transfer of care. The ambulance care summary is shared with a growing number of providers' clinical portals and patient management systems.
Ministry of Health, ACC, St John and Wellington Free Ambulance representatives meet quarterly to maintain the standard and monitor its adoption.
Current directions are:
- maintaining the SNOMED ambulance clinical impression refset
- extending the ambulance care summary data set
- moving to the HL7® FHIR® standard for conveying the ambulance care summary
- supporting the data requirements of the NZ Major Trauma Registry.
