Summary

The purpose of this guide is to improve national consistency in the collection and use of mental health and addiction activity data in PRIMHD. This includes the activity type codes, also known as T codes, and the family/whānau indicator added to PRIMHD on 1 July 2021. The guide is not a replacement for the HISO PRIMHD standards but is intended to support a consistent national approach so that the quality of the data reported to PRIMHD improves, thereby improving the utility of the national collection.

The intended audience of this guide includes: NGO and District service providers (clinicians, data analysts, administrators, District and regional coordinators for PRIMHD); portfolio managers, funders and planners; Ministry of Health, including Mental Health and Addiction directorate, Health New Zealand PRIMHD National Collections; national workforce centres; and researchers and other users of PRIMHD data.

Specific case scenarios have been developed for all current activity codes detailed in the PRIMHD Code Set Standard HISO 10023.3:2024. Additional content has been added to provide guidance for reporting the new family/whānau involvement (FWI) flag, which is expected to be reported from 1 July 2021.

This guide was published 28 May 2024. A previous version was published in June 2021.
