Gateway Assessments (Gateway) assess the health and education needs of children and young people who are involved in the care and protection system. Around 3,000 assessments are undertaken each year.
As part of the Oranga Tamariki Action Plan (OTAP), Oranga Tamariki Ministry for Children, Manatū Hauora Ministry of Health, Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand, and Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga Ministry of Education, are launching a cross-agency review of Gateway.
Te Aka Whai Ora is supporting these lead agencies during the review by facilitating access to our Māori communities and professional networks where needed. It is critically important that the voices and views of Māori are reflected in the review.
