Te Whatu Ora has settled all outstanding pay equity claims for staff with a settlement that covers 80 librarians and interpreters.

“I’m delighted with the progress in the past year to resolve pay inequities across our health workforce,” said Margie Apa, Chief Executive Te Whatu Ora. 

“This latest settlement means we have lifted the pay of more than 65,000 employees.  This includes the Clerical and Administration claim settled in 2022, and this year for our Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied, Scientific, and Technical workforces.

“Eliminating sex-based pay undervaluation is a monumental step forward for our workforce, and the community as a whole.  I want to acknowledge all of those involved, including our partner unions, for their considerable effort, and dedication to getting us to this point.

“Our Librarian and Interpreter workers have an important role in ensuring we have the information and support to improve care, as well as directly supporting understanding in caring for the health needs of our whānau and communities.

“This is a relatively small workforce that makes a valuable contribution to the health system.”

The staff will receive salary increases of approximately 30% effective from 1 June 2023 and a lump sum payment of up to $10,000.
