Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Chief Executive Fepulea’i Margie Apa has welcomed Leigh Donoghue as the new Chief Data and Digital.

Leigh began his important work with Te Whatu Ora on 1 May 2023.

Leigh will build and lead a team that will undertake a significant multi-year programme of change and digital enablement that will form a core part of transforming the delivery of health services to New Zealanders. This collective mahi will include enabling Te Whatu Ora to embrace technological innovations and digital services in order to improve access to care for all New Zealanders, as well as enhancing our people’s experience of work.

Under Leigh’s leadership the Data and Digital team will also ensure our digital assets can be utilised to support equitable outcomes throughout the health system, as well as enabling a culture of transparent, usable data sharing to drive innovation using insights from across the sector. He will work in close partnership with Te Aka Whai Ora – Māori Health Authority to ensure the principles of Te Tiriti and Māori data sovereignty are put into practice.
