Minister of Health Dr Ayesha Verrall announced that there will be no further substantial re-designs of the Inpatient Building and an extra $10 million funding has been allocated to the New Dunedin Hospital.

The extra funding will provide:

  • An additional MRI machine
  • Fit-out of the shelled space for a PET scanner
  • Fit-out of all collaborative workspaces on opening (this is a reversal of a previous decision to 'shell' these spaces)
  • Completion of the review into the Pathology services to ensure the ability to provide acute pathology services within the space provided, and the two-site model, is feasible
  • A national review into mental health services for older people to ensure that the capacity provided in the New Dunedin Hospital is appropriate into the future.
