Te Aka Whai Ora Māori Health Authority Chair, Tipa Mahuta (Waikato, Maniapoto, Ngāpuhi) has today welcomed the appointment of Steven McJorrow (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Moe) to the Board. 

The appointment was announced by Minister of Health, Hon Andrew Little and Associate Minister of Health, Hon Peeni Henare. 

Steven joins Te Aka Whai Ora at an critical time in our mahi as we build our foundations and set in place a pathway to drive genuine transformational change in the healthcare system,” says Tipa Mahuta. 

Steven brings a strong commitment to Pae Ora, Whānau Ora and Wai Ora, as well as extensive experience in finance, strategic analysis and planning that complement the clinical, governance, community and public sector skills of our other Board members.  

Our Board has an ambitious work programme with our central focus on Pae Ora for whānau, communities and our kaimahi. We are committed to making the best use of our resources and drawing on the all the knowledge and expertise available to address Māori Health inequities.   

We are navigating the complex and challenging task of addressing intergenerational Māori Health inequity through transforming the Health system. 

Steven will make an important contribution to this mahi and I look forward to working with him.
